Description: Focusing on the content area of math, a scope and sequence literacy map from the Partnership for 21st Century Skills will be shared along with ideas for integrating 21st Century Skills into the math curriculum. A lesson from the curriculum map will be shared and demonstrated.

  • Comic Creator Activity: Learning & Innovation Skills
    • acute_angle_comic.jpgActivity: Use a comic creator for students to communicate math understandings using a comic strip format. You technology (or paper and pencil--low tech).

  • PowerPoint/i-Pod Flash Cards
    • Content Knowledge 21st Century Skills
    • Activity: Angles Flash Cards using the i-Pod
    • Handout:
    • Other Ideas for Follow-Up Workshop: math skills using SmartBoard, clickers, create your own i-pod flash cards, etc.
      • Example PowerPoints: ~
      • Instructions
        1. Use PowerPoint to create flash cards (a question slide followed by an answer slide)
        2. Create a series of slides in this order (question slide, answer slide, question slide, answer slide)
        3. Once you have finished the slides FILE-->SAVE AS PICTURES
        4. The slides will be saved as individual pictures in a folder
        5. Create and ALBUM in i-PHOTO and drag the slides into that album (check the order)
        6. Synch with a i-pod that has a visual display
        7. Voila--21st Century Flashcards (some students still need this)

Follow-Up Math Session at ESU#3: Integrating 21st Century Skills into the Math Curriculum
Date: February 13th--register with Jane Patterson.

  • Descriptor: Focusing on the content area of math, participants will connect with the K-12 scope and sequence literacy map for mathematics from the Partnership for 21st Century Skills with the current math standards. Ideas and activities for integrating 21st Century Skills into the math curriculum will be shared.
  • Activities will include an overview of the 21st Century Skills, connecting 21st Century literacy maps to current math standards, and activities that utilize on-line math and collaboration tools. Participants will work through four math activities that address the 21st Century Skills of:
    * Information and Media Literacy
    * Communication
    * Critical Thinking and Systems Thinking
    * Problem Identification, Formulation & Solution
    * Creativity and Intellectual Curiosity
    * Collaboration

    This session is a follow-up to the 21st Century Skills Fair held on January 21st, although any educator is welcome to attend. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.
